Mission
Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center provides a sacred space for inspiration, solitude, reflection and connections for
persons seeking greater meaning in life and a deeper relationship with God, others, self and all creation.
Vision
The vision of Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center includes:
- Witnessing to the spirit of the Gospels as lived by Francis and Clare of Assisi.
- Living an awareness of God's presence in creation and all of the universe.
- Reverencing and appreciating Earth's resources.
- Collaborating with laity and clergy in strengthening church and Christian life.
- Providing opportunities for reflection on life experiences, personal growth, creativity and faith development.
- Connecting with individuals and groups focused on ecology, cultural diversity and spirituality.
Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center, on the shoreline of Trout Lake in Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin, has been a place of rest, leisure, renewal, prayer, rejuvenation, play, inspiration and peacefulness since 1992.
It was purchased by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration of La Crosse, Wisconsin as a provincial home and offices. Through the years, the four cabins, lodge and main building provided Sisters and their guests with a special place in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
The first step of the dream that Marywood be a spirituality center happened on March 25, 1992. In the fall of 1992, one staff member coordinated the first programs and activities of the formally recognized spirituality center. Marywood is now open to all interested people (lay, religious, clergy) of all denominations and religious beliefs for renewal and retreat. Presently our staff includes seven persons.
A wide variety of programs are scheduled seasonally, and a printed schedule is distributed throughout the area every three months. A newsletter is published twice a year.
